6 Popular Ways to Dose with CBD

CBD (cannabidiol) products are available pretty much everywhere these days and with so many different options, knowing what is what and why people choose one over the other is important. While some CBD users prefer certain brands over others, there are also those that state they get better benefits when dosing a specific way.

These are important factors to keep in mind as you delve into using CBD. Whether it’s for chronic pain, insomnia, PTSD, anxiety, arthritis flair-ups, or epileptic seizures, it may take a little trial and error before finding the right brand, with the right product, combined with the right dosing amount.

To help you out a little on this journey, we wanted to list out the most popular CBD dosing methods and why you may want to try them. Be sure to check out our other articles as well, we have ones that go further in-depth on a range of topics regarding CBD and CBD-infused products.

Before You Start CBD

As mentioned above, there are numerous CBD products available and you’re liable to see various ones available at just about every gas station and smoke shop you visit. Aside from actual CBD content, there are three things you should pay attention to when looking to purchase any CBD product.

One – is it made from hemp or cannabis? If it says full-spectrum or anything other than “made from hemp flower,” you’ll definitely want to pay attention to the ingredients.

Two – how many milligrams of THC does the product have? THC is the cannabinoid responsible for the “buzz” you get from marijuana and most users are going to want a low THC content. This will depend on the package size and whether it is made from hemp flower or cannabis but in general should be 0.3% or less.

Three – where do they get their hemp? If it isn’t grown here in the U.S., you may want to reconsider your purchase. With little to no regulation of the industry at this point, you may be subject to pesticides and other unwanted additives.

6 Popular CBD Dosing Methods

While there are new products made from or infused with CBD being introduced fairly regularly, there are six main contenders for the top popularity spot. In no particular order, they are:

  • CBD Flower – while it looks exactly like marijuana bud, CBD flower is low in THC and is especially popular among longtime weed smokers. Some users prefer to smoke it alone while others like adding a bit of CBD flower to their regular marijuana smoking but either way, it’s a great way to enjoy fast-acting benefits.
  • Balm / Topicals – perfect for areas of localized pain, balms, lotions, and other topicals infused with CBD are ideal for those that suffer from arthritis, neuropathy, muscle spasms, and joint pain. With a little experimenting with brands and application doses, many users swear that they get more relief than ever before.
  • Tincture – this is an oil-based option that you simply place a small amount under your tongue for dosing. Some of the more popular brands, like the products from DNA Hemp Company, are fast-acting, have a great CBD concentration, and don’t have a strong aftertaste. Unlike much of their competition.
  • Shatter – another smokable CBD option that has really gained ground in popularity recently. Looking a bit like honey in most cases, the stiff substance is cut or broken into small pieces and usually vaporized with intense heat in specialized equipment as opposed to smoked in a traditional pipe or CBD cigarette.
  • Edibles – with various gummy options, candies, sodas, energy drinks, coffee, and much more, it’s easy to see why this is a popular CBD option. You’ll find a wide variety of flavors, CBD content, number of doses per pack, and of course selections available for those that prefer to dose with a combination of THC and CBD.
  • Gelatin Pills & Supplements – for total control over dosages, many CBD users are turning to this option. This is another product that comes in a variety of dosing options, making it perfect for beginners and regular users alike. However, pay special attention to the ingredients and it’s always a good idea to research the company before selecting a specific one.

As a final note, you should always consult your physician before starting any sort of treatment, natural or otherwise. While no ill side-effects have been found in the numerous studies on CBD, it’s still a best practice to ensure that there are no possible negative interactions with your prescribed medications.
